A tractor-trailer overturned on the Hutchinson River Parkway Friday afternoon, temporarily shutting down all northbound lanes near Westchester Avenue, police said.
Fire officials say FDNY hazmat units responded to the scene around 2:30 p.m. for a reported fuel spill after the truck flipped onto its side.
One person was taken to the hospital by EMS to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi. Their condition has not been released.
The crash scattered debris and shattered glass across the shoulder of the parkway, which appeared frozen over due to frigid temperatures. Tow trucks worked to upright and remove the vehicle, and all northbound lanes have
since reopened.
Commercial trucks are prohibited on the Hutchinson River Parkway, and officials say “no truck” signs are posted along entrances and exits. Neighbors tell News 12 crashes involving large trucks happen frequently along this stretch of roadway.
The driver of the tractor-trailer had already left the scene by the time News 12 crews arrived.
