Elsa is
beginning to make its way up the East Coast, and the
storm could potentially
do a
number on the
coastline at the Jersey Shore.
On Long Beach Island, Harvey
Cedars Police Chief Robert Burnaford says they are closely monitoring the
storm.
“First things first,
especially that we’re in season, you want to make sure everybody ties down all
their outdoor furniture,” says Burnaford. “Take down their flags and since
we’re in season, make sure all your boats and all your water toys are tied down
and properly secured as well.”
Harvey Cedars will take the
municipal trash, recycling cans and lifeguard stands off the beach as a
precaution, as flooding is expected.
“We have some low line back
bay streets that do typically flood,” says Burnaford.
Some residents will be asked
to move their vehicles to higher ground.
Oceanfront homeowners also have their
share of concerns every time a storm like this rolls in
“Well, everything will come
in off the deck,” says Karen Mullaney, of Harvey Cedars. “We don’t board up,
but we just stay safe and with our faith, we say a prayer.”
