The debate over letting children play with toy guns intensified after a BB gun incident in Sussex County over the weekend. Police Chief John Tomasula says a 12-year-old, playing with a toy BB gun practically identical to the one his officers use, was shooting at moving vehicles along a road in Newton. William Zonca, whose car was one of the targets, says he saw the boy and his friends lying on the side of the roadway and then heard a shot. Zonca says he was stunned when he heard the BB hit his tire, but looking back he says he feels everyone involved is lucky. Police are urging parents to be aware of the similarities between toy guns and real guns to avoid any type of tragedy. They say if parents do allow their kids to play with toy guns, they should be used in a back yard or away from the public.
