Toms River has
rolled back its curfew
from 11 p.m. to 10 p.m. for anyone under 18 following complaints of hundreds of
teens gathering late at night earlier this summer.
The curfew now matches other
neighboring towns, but neighbors also say August in general is much quieter
than July.
Viewer video from the July 4
weekend shows groups of teens, leading to some homeowners complaining about the
large gatherings, saying they disrupted their quality of life, leaving behind
empty alcohol containers and trash and harassing customers at businesses.
Last week, Toms River Township
rolled back the curfew from 11 p.m. to 10 p.m. to try and cut back the rowdy late-night
behavior.
Another factor heard from local
police is the fact they are restricted as to how to approach teens suspected of
smoking marijuana or drinking alcohol.
Despite the earlier problems this
summer, business owners say they've seen improvements and hope the early curfew
work during the last couple of weekends.
