Commuters weighing whether to save time or money saw two approaches compared as News 12 reporters traveled from Glen Rock to New York City using different routes.
Amanda Eustice began her train trip a little after 6:50 a.m. after dropping colleague Tom Krosnowski at a bus stop. She walked across the street to the opposite platform to board a train to New York Penn Station. Her scheduled arrival time was 7:04 a.m., while his bus was expected at 7:09 a.m.
Eustice made a stop before transferring in Secaucus. She bought her ticket, boarded her first train and continued to her second, saying she felt confident after completing her connection. She texted Krosnowski as he told her he was cruising along Interstate 80.
After arriving at New York Penn Station, Eustice headed up Eighth Avenue toward her meeting point at Eighth Avenue and West 38th Street. She said she briefly became unsure of her direction before spotting the correct corner.
Krosnowski later texted that he was moving through the Lincoln Tunnel.
She reached the meeting point and waited several minutes before he arrived.
Krosnowski says got the better value because her one‑way ticket cost $10.90 while his cost $8.25. Eustice says the choice often comes down to time or money and depends on where someone is headed. She said some people in Glen Rock may prefer the bus while others prefer the train. Either way, Eustice says she won their race.
