It's been nearly six months since Hurricane Irene hit, and residents in Tinton Falls are still impacted.
Water Street remains closed for repairs. Part of the road crumbled last August during a storm and then Hurricane Irene hit shortly after, leaving an even greater toll. A gaping hole could still be seen on the roadway and edges of the street are missing.
Since then residents who live off of White Street must take a detour to get to key places in the borough such as the deli and gas station. Residents say they're getting frustrated that the work is not yet complete.
The borough says the crew is nearly finished, adding that much of the work must be done underneath the roadway to stabilize the ground around Pine Brook. Borough officials say it took longer than expected to get DEP permits, complete the bidding process and get needed materials. The borough engineer reportedly says the project should be complete by the end of the month.
