A series of powerful thunderstorms crossed through New Jersey Wednesday afternoon, creating quick bursts of rain and knocking out power to thousands of New Jersey residents.
The strong winds caused trees and tree branches to fall across northern areas of the state. The storm also caused damage to power lines.
New Jersey utility companies reported several thousand customers without power Wednesday afternoon. Crews were out to make repairs.
The storms also produced hail to fall around the state.
Bitterly cold temperatures have now moved in to the state and will remain through Thursday morning.
