The United States House of Representatives voted to impeach President Donald Trump for a second time after a mob of Trump supporters breached the U.S. Capitol building last week.
News 12 New Jersey’s Alex Zdan spoke with Democratic Rep. Tom Malinowski who voted in favor of impeaching the president.
“It’s been a sad and somber day for all of us – for the country,” Malinowski said. “As late as it is in the Trump presidency, a statement needed to be made that this is something that cannot be tolerated in our country.”
Republican Senate Leader Mitch McConnell said that the soonest an impeachment trial would begin is next Tuesday, a day before President-elect Joe Biden would be sworn in to office.
