Today is National
Mom and Pop Business Owners Day. If shopping is on your to-do list, today's
the day to shop small.
Sixty-seven cents of every dollar you spend at a small
business stays in your local community.
“We are a mom and pop business,
and we've been a mom and pop business since I was 2 years old, since I
was born into this business,” says Anthony Campisi, with New Pearl Cleaners
& Dante Tuxedo.
Campisi will be the first to say
without a solid customer base supporting his dry cleaner and tuxedo shop,
staying around this long would never have been possible. But the
appreciation goes both ways.
“You're never going to get the
service the same as a mom and pop anywhere because this is our blood, this is
our livelihood,” says Campisi.
"I think a lot of people think
you own your own business, so that makes you automatically wealthy,” says
Anisha Khan. “That's not the case at all. You're no different than anybody else.
You're working ... I always say this is my home away from home. I
have so many people like Trudy. She comes every day for 21 years Monday through
Friday, and I'm honored - and I feel so special
that people love and support the small business."
The U.S. Small Business Administration says there are around 27
million small businesses in the country.
