Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop says he thinks the suspects in Tuesday's shooting that killed six were also planning another attack.
Fulop told News 12's John Bathke that he thinks the shooters planned to go after children attending a Jewish school next door to the JC Kosher Supermarket.
"Everybody in the community knows that that is a school and location where Orthodox Jewish people congregate," says Fulop. "This could have been another Sandy Hook."
Fulop believes responding officers who quickly engaged the suspects in gunfire prevented the shooters from continuing their rampage to the classrooms.
Fulop, who was frustrated with investigators not calling the shooting a bias attack more quickly, says he was glad the attorney general said the incident points to acts of hate and domestic terrorism.
There was no sign of children attending shul Thursday, but Sacred Heart School across the street did reopen. A nonprofit helping local entrepreneurs was on hand giving out flowers to students and residents as a small gesture in helping the community return to normal.
