A real-life grinch may have ruined Christmas for dozens of needy children by stealing presents collected to brighten their holiday.
The gifts were taken from the home of Elanor Tapia, president of the Ecuadorian Civic Association of Mercer County. Her group had been collecting the presents over the past few months. They were slated to be unwrapped and enjoyed by more than 60 disadvantaged children.
Along with the toys, thieves swiped diamond jewelry and other prized possessions of Tapia?s. Her television, VCR and stereo were left untouched.
Police are investigating the theft, but say they do not have any suspects. Tapia is pleading with whoever is responsible for the crime to either return the gifts or donate them to the needy.
