Police in Monmouth County say that a real-life Grinch has stolen proceeds from a firehouse Christmas tree sale.
Spring Lake Heights police say that a cash register with about $1,000 was stolen from the Independent Fire Company Number One firehouse. Firehouse members noticed the register was missing Sunday.
"It's disappointing," says assistant fire chief Casey Willms. "It doesn't rise to the level of a disaster or anything like that but it is a severe disappointment."
The firefighters planned to use the money for kitchen upgrades and to offset the cost of recent maintenance in the basement.
Anyone who has any information about the theft should contact Spring Lake Heights police.
