An elementary school teacher in Vineland has been accused of making racist comments about 5-year-old Dulce Alavez's disappearance, and is waiting to see if she will still have a job.

Jennifer Hewitt Bishop posted a comment on Facebook, saying the girl's mother was not watching her close enough because, "They're Mexican, it's their culture. They don't supervise their children like we do."

The post questioned why Dulce’s mother wasn’t more closely monitoring the girl.

According to officials, several people reported the teacher's comment.

A subcommittee of the Board of Education met Wednesday night in a closed-door session to discuss the matter.

According to the district, it will come to a decision after a meeting with the lawyer representing the teacher, and the personnel committee with the school system.

Police believe Alavez was abducted last week from a park in Bridgeton.
