Atlantic City has a new place to play.
And it doesn't involve gambling.
The Playground opened on Friday as the city's newest non-gambling attraction. It is Philadelphia developer Bart Blatstein's $52 million remake of the former Pier Shops at Caesars.
Its central attraction is T-Street, a collection of five music-themed venues in the spirit of Nashville's Music Row and 6th Street in Austin, Texas.
39 North is a concert hall where a decorative water fountain used to be and can hold several thousand fans. It can be used for meetings and receptions as well.
The complex also has shopping and dining, and a bowling alley and sports bar will be added by fall.
Blatstein says Atlantic City needs to offer more than the same old gambling experience in order to thrive.
