Retail stores around New Jersey were prepared for large Black Friday crowds, including at The Mills at Jersey Gardens and in the Menlo Park Mall.
Jersey Gardens opened at 10 a.m. Thursday, and Menlo Park opened at 6 a.m. Friday.
Shoppers came in waves in search of Black Friday deals.
Crystal Fresco, marketing director of Jersey Gardens, said traffic in the mall was up from last year.
"There's nothing like the thrill of the sport of shopping," Fresco said. "People who are here are diehard shoppers."
