The U.S. Secretary of Transportation was at Newark Airport to kick off the holiday travel season while also reminding people to remember to kind and respectful to your fellow travelers at the airport.

Secretary Sean Duffy said that Tuesday will be the busiest day for air travel of this Thanksgiving holiday, with 52,000 flights scheduled nationwide.

Duffy said it will be the busiest Thanksgiving on record.

At the same time, Duffy was pushing the Department of Transportation’s civility campaign.

He is asking everyone using the airport or boarding a plane to watch their manners and be respectful to fellow passengers.

The Department of Transportation is offering data that says since 2021, there were 13,800 unruly passenger incidents. Also, the DOT stated one in five flight attendants experienced physical incidents in 2021.

“Don’t take your shoes off and put your feet on the chair ahead of you. Or maybe don’t play your movie without headphones on, simple things that can annoy the folks around you,” said Secretary Duffy.

The campaign also asks that people dress appropriately for air travel.

Some air travelers at Terminal A in Newark agreed that some passengers don’t always dress their best.

“Yes, it’s much more casual than it used to be, even 10 years ago. And I actually tell my son that he needs to dress nice before going on a plane," says Reggie Herman, from Dallas.

“I do like to look put together mostly because when I get to my destination I like to hit the ground running," said Madison Venables, another passenger who was getting off a plane from Alabama. "You see all types of people but if people are nice and respectful I don’t care what they’re wearing.”
