Testimony began today in the trial of Dharun Ravi, the former Rutgers University student accused of spying on his roommate who later committed suicide.
The first witness took the stand after opening statements were delivered.
Ravi is charged with bias intimidation and invasion of privacy, among other counts, for his alleged act of secretly setting up his webcam to catch Tyler Clementi in a sexual encounter with another man. Ravi is also accused of watching it live on a computer across the hall where six other Rutgers students were present.
After Clementi found out about the webcam, the 18-year-old committed suicide by jumping from the George Washington Bridge.
Lawyers for Ravi say the two weren't perfect matches to be roommates, but that he never harassed or bullied Clementi.
