There is no doubt that it is summer in the Garden State as temperatures soared above 90 degrees for the fourth day in a row.
Temperatures rose to over 100 degrees in Newark for the second day in a row, breaking an old record set in 1964.
Most New Jersey residents sought escape from the heat indoors. But there were still many who decided to embrace the summer weather – often with a cold drink in their hand.
“I love it. It’s summer. It’s light, it’s wonderful. This is my kind of weather,” said Wendy Williams, of Princeton, who was headed to lunch.
Many outdoor dining tables along Nassau Street in Princeton were empty because people were opting to eat indoors in the air conditioning.
But there were some who were not able to escape the heat because they have to work in the scorching conditions.
“I’m trying to get home early so I can get in my air conditioning,” said Ruben Mercado.
Mercado works for J&P Distribution. He had eight more stops to make to offload bottle drunks from his truck before his day was done.
Not far away, News 12 ran into two men working on a recycling truck.
“It hasn’t been too bad, as long as you’re drinking in this head. I’m drinking about a gallon a day. My truck has air, so that’s good,” one of the workers said.
Temperatures are expected to cool down slightly by Thursday to around 80 degrees.
