Accused cat killer Anthony Appolonia went to court Monday to face the people who entrusted their pets to him.
The 50-year-old Aberdeen man is accused of killing 19 kittens and cats.
Appolonia confessed earlier to 14 acts of cruelty, but on Monday his attorney entered a plea of not guilty.
?I'm speechless,? said John Casale, of Matawan. ?It's a sad day that we're here for this.?
Appolonia is accused of answering ads to adopt animals. But instead of giving them a good home, investigators say he threw kittens against the wall and drowned others.
"The rest of my life this will affect me,? said Lois Justice, of Ocean County. ?I loved that cat."
Appolonia's lawyer says he hasn't ruled out an insanity plea.
His client faces up to five years in prison for each of the 19 charges.
