(04/23/08) NEWARK ? The man accused of going on a shooting spree in Irvington Sunday morning made his first appearance in court Wednesday.
Shaquon Johnson is accused of fatally shooting 22-year-old Rutgers student Gary Farrar. Investigators say he also wounded Farrar?s friend, wounded Irvington Police Sgt. John Van Bavel and attempted to kidnap a 14-year-old boy. All of the alleged incidents took place within a span of 30 minutes.
It was revealed in court that Johnson was out on probation when all of the incidents took place.
Johnson, wearing a shirt and tie over his prison jumpsuit, pleaded not guilty to all the charges. He is currently being held on $1.5 million bail.
Investigators are not speculating on a motive, but say they are looking at all possible angles.
