Parents, students and city employees gathered Sunday to show their support for school safety agents on the steps of Brooklyn Borough Hall.
The group is calling on the city to keep school safety agents in schools and under the jurisdiction of the NYPD instead of Department of Education.
Supporters are concerned over rising crime, gang violence in schools, recent calls to defund police departments and the removal of civilian agents - who are trained by the NYPD.
They say removing the school safety agents will be dangerous for children and will open the way for criminals to take advantage of schools.
Public school children explained the bullying and violence they faced in schools and why the safety agents were essential.
They're also asking for politicians and activists running for public office to support their cause, saying most parents in the city want more protection for their kids.
