Summit Police Department to offer free home security assessments due to rise in crime

Summit, like most other towns in New Jersey, has seen an uptick in home burglaries. Here are some recommendations from police.

A rise in home break-ins has called for an increase in home defense. So, Summit Police Department will offer free home security assessments beginning March 1.
The department has already started using license plate readers to identify stolen vehicles.
Summit, like most other towns in New Jersey, has seen an uptick in home burglaries. Police want to help homeowners be prepared. Some of the recommendations will include:
  • Upgraded locks and security systems
  • Lighting and visibility
  • Community vigilance
  • Signing up for alert notifications
