A study done by the Coalition Against Hunger shows Bronx residents do not have enough access to fresh fruits and vegetables.
The study used state-of-the-art technology to map out the supermarkets with the most variety of foods. It found that small grocery stores are prevalent in poorer areas and these do not stock fresh produce. It also found to obtain fresh produce, Bronx residents much travel miles to stores that carry it.
The coalition says in order to get Bronx residents to eat healthy, they must have healthy foods available. It recommends government incentives for small groceries store to carry fresh fruits and vegetables.
