(09/05/06) RAHWAY ? A Mt. Sinai Medical Center study finds nearly 70 percent of rescue workers, including thousands from New Jersey, left the World Trade Center site with lung problems.
Over 9,400 workers and volunteers participated in what is the largest long-term health study of its kind, examining the effects of the rubble?s toxins. Study coordinators say nearly one-third of the patients had abnormal breathing tests. At least one former NYPD officer?s death has been linked to 9/11 injuries and Chris Schlosser, a Rahway firefighter, is among those who experienced diminished lung capacity after spending two months at Ground Zero.
Many New Jersey residents hope the government continues to stand by those now suffering.
