A new study has released some alarming statistics concerning poverty in New Jersey.

According to the New Jersey Poverty Research Institute, one in every five residents is living above the poverty line but below the cost of living. The study shows it?s particularly hard for single parents to make ends meet.

Working parents, like Stephanie Baldwin of Trenton, agree.

?What I?m supposed to pay out every month to pay everything off is about $1,600,? says Baldwin, who balances her parenting responsibilities with a job as a secretary. ?What I net is about $1,400.?

Researchers examined the cost of housing, food, transportation, health care and child care in comparison with salaries to come up with their figures. The second half of the study will be released in June, detailing which segments of the state?s population are hurting the most.
