A group of students at Rutgers University is looking to give the school's Scarlet Knight mascot a makeover.
A bill passed by the Rutgers University Student Assembly calls for more gender and ethnic diversity in the mascot costume, according to a report by The Daily Targum, the school's student newspaper.
Some students argue that the current mascot's features, a blue-eyed Caucasian male, are not representative of the student body.
Rutgers Athletic Director Julie Hermann told NJ Advance Media that she was happy to discuss the issue with student leaders.
