A Garfield woman has been charged with distributing methamphetamine after federal investigators allegedly found drugs and cash in her hotel room in Fairfield, authorities said.
Brittany Malsch, 38, is charged with possession with intent to distribute more than 50 grams of methamphetamine, U.S. Attorney Robert Frazer announced.
Law enforcement began investigating Malsch as early as December 2025 for allegedly distributing methamphetamine from a room at a Fairfield hotel, according to court documents.
After confirming Malsch was staying at the hotel, investigators executed a search warrant and recovered multiple bags containing suspected crystal meth, along with packaging materials and other drug paraphernalia, prosecutors said.
Authorities also seized about $1,720 in cash from the room.
Malsch made her initial appearance in Newark federal court and was ordered detained pending further proceedings.
If convicted, the charge carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison, a maximum sentence of life imprisonment and a fine of up to $10 million.
