A group of students that knew the three victims of the Newark schoolyard killings is trying to prevent more violence.
Sharlette Saunders, an Arts High senior, is leading the group of students hoping to stop violence. She said she formed the group because many Arts High students knew the victims of the execution-style shootings. Others in the group knew the suspects and feel the violence needs to end.
The students say they want more safe places to hang out and for recreation. They called on parents to become more involved.
Meanwhile, the Street Warriors, an anti-gang and anti-violence organization, said a businessman donated money to help the victims? families with expenses. The group presented the families with the checks Wednesday.
