A Cedar Grove High School senior wrote to Gov. Phil Murphy and asked him to allow in-person outdoor graduation ceremonies with social distancing guidelines in place.

Julianna Cicala missed prom and her senior softball season due to the pandemic. She asked Sen. Kristin Corrado to help share the message.

Corrado says her office has received a tremendous response since posting Cicala's letter.

Cicala's principal says he and his staff put up a billboard to celebrate the senior class, but that doesn't take the place of a graduation ceremony. He tells News 12 many people are confused by the seemingly inconsistent social distancing guidelines.

Under Murphy's most recent guidelines, car ceremonies are permitted, but his office says guidelines will continue to be regularly reviewed.

Cicala says it's so important to properly celebrate the senior class.
