At least 10 people living at the Paramus Veterans Memorial Home have died from complications relating to COVID-19, according to the New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs.
The agency also says that 23 other residents have tested positive and 47 others are awaiting test results. Seventeen staffers at the facility have also been diagnosed with the illness and 20 other workers have pending tests.
The New Jersey National Guard will be sending 40 Guardsmen to the facility on Thursday to help with staffing shortages. Thirty-five others will go to another veterans facility in Menlo Park.
The coronavirus has been badly impacting New Jersey’s nursing homes and long-term care facilities. At least 12 residents of a
nursing home in Elizabeth have died from the virus as of since March 22.
A nursing home in Woodbridge was evacuated after an outbreak of the virus at that facility.
