Lakewood police are investigating reports of 100-150 students sleeping inside of a school, despite the fact that Gov. Phil Murphy ordered all schools to close during the coronavirus pandemic.
Students at the Mesivta of Lakewood were seen walking in and out of the school Thursday night. Others were spotted on the roof. The school is located on Kennedy Boulevard.
Lakewood police say that many of the students are from out of town, and that they just can't be thrown out on the street. The students are expected to return to their homes by Friday.
Police say that if anyone tests positive for the virus, the students will be quarantined. The chief says that officers are also keeping a safe distance just in case.
Ocean County has 33 confirmed cases of COVID-19.
