Carteret Mayor Dan Reiman has confirmed the 15-year-old boy who fell through an icy pond at Carteret Park Wednesday has died.

 

Mayor Reiman made the announcement on his Facebook page.

According to authorities, another teenage boy that fell through the pond Wednesday around 7 p.m. was able to get himself out.

Authorities say the victim was under the water for nearly an hour before firefighters were able to get to him.

The pond is overlooked by the windows of Carteret High School. News 12 has confirmed grief counselors will be on hand at the district schools today.
