A fully loaded dump truck crashed into a home in South Brunswick, causing extensive damage and seriously injuring the driver.
The crash happened around 4:20 a.m. Wednesday at the home located at 3 Shelley Road.
Police say the driver was trapped for about 40 minutes and was eventually taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital with serious injuries.
Three people and two family cats were inside the home at the time of the crash, but were not hurt.
"If this crash is 3 feet over, 4 feet over, I'm sure we are talking about fatalities," says South Brunswick Police Sgt. Gary Holsten.
The speed limit on the road is 25 mph. Police have not yet said if speed contributed to the crash. The cause is under investigation.
The house has been deemed uninhabitable.
