A Ewing police officer and his wife are facing charges in connection with the death of their 3-month-old daughter back in December.
Daniel Bannister, 31, was arrested Tuesday morning and charged with the death of his baby daughter, Hailey. Bannister’s wife, 29-year-old Catherine Bannister, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
Authorities say that on Dec. 5 EMS responded to the Banisters’ home for reports of an unresponsive baby having difficulty breathing. Doctors determined that the baby had a fractured skull, multiple fractured ribs and brain bleed. She died on Dec. 11.
Mercer County prosecutors ruled the death a homicide and say that an investigation revealed that there seemed to have been ongoing abuse.
Daniel Bannister has been suspended from the Ewing Police Department since December. He was hired in May 2017.
Mercer County prosecutors have filed motions to detain Bannister and his wife until their trials.
