President Donald Trump has congratulated New Jersey lawmakers for passing a budget that didn't include a tax on millionaires.
Trump tweeted Monday that many high-end taxpayers were planning to leave New Jersey had taxes gone up. He says that now the wealthy will stay in the state.
Gov. Phil Murphy tweeted in response that Trump was fighting for millionaires, but that he is working for the state's middle class and people working to get there.
Murphy campaigned on the higher rate, but lawmakers fought against it.
Senate President Steve Sweeney is calling for public worker health benefit reforms before considering a tax hike.
