The National Weather Service has confirmed that a tornado touched down in Mullica Hill Thursday evening.
"Given video of a clear funnel with some small debris being lofted, a tornado touchdown has been confirmed," the agency said on Twitter.
New Jerseyans and meteorologists were caught off guard Thursday evening by a series of tornado warnings which lasted about an hour.
The weather service issued the warnings around 8:30 p.m. They impacted the southern half of the state.
A video posted on Twitter shows what seems to be a funnel cloud forming in Deptford, Gloucester County.
Other parts of the state saw very heavy rain with some localized flooding, along with strong winds. Thousands of utility customers lost power for a time.
