EDITOR'S NOTE: News 12 has made the decision not to publish the law firm's document of names at this time as several accusations have not been fully evaluated in a criminal or civil court.
A list of nearly 200 Boy Scout troop leaders in multiple states are accused of sexually abusing boys for decades has been revealed.
Fifty-two of the accused are from the Garden State.
The leaders are among more than 7,000 alleged child sex abusers with ties to the scouts across the country. The names were released by a law firm, Jeff Anderson & Associates, representing alleged victims of the abuse.
Victims rights attorneys say the list is incomplete, and does not mean that the abuse necessarily happened inside the organization. Now they are asking for victims to come forward.
Anderson claims the Boy Scouts have files on child abuses within their ranks dating back to the 1940s. He is calling on the organization to reveal all local Scout leaders accused of misconduct.
The Boy Scouts of America released a statement, saying, "We care deeply about all victims of child sex abuse and sincerely apologize to anyone who was harmed during their time in Scouting. We believe victims, we support them, and we have paid for unlimited counseling by a provider of their choice. At no time have we ever knowingly allowed a perpetrator to work with youth, and we mandate that all leaders, volunteers and staff members nationwide immediately report any abuse allegation to law enforcement."
It is not clear at this point whether all of the accused are alive.
