Lawyer: Jussie Smollett took advantage of brothers connected to attack
A lawyer representing the two men paid by “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett to allegedly stage a hate crime in Chicago say the pair was taken advantage of by someone they trusted.
According to Gloria Schmidt, the brothers were friends with Smollett, and they thought he had their best interests at heart.
The brothers told police Smollett paid them $3,500 for a personal training program, but the money was also intended for the attack.
Meanwhile, Smollett's cast members on the show are afraid he's cost them their jobs.
The show has yet to be renewed for another season.
A grand jury in Chicago recently indicted Smollett on 16 felony counts related to making a false report that he was attacked by two men who shouted racial and homophobic slurs.
