As the esteemed news anchor Ron Burgundy once said “Well, that escalated quickly!”
We mentioned yesterday that elevation would be a key part for snow accumulations with this storm. High Point State Park certainly put on a snowy show with 20 inches. This storm will continue to pivot slowly through the state for the first part of tonight and eventually begin to lurch away from the coast. As that happens, the moisture goes with it and leads to a drier weather setup for the upcoming weekend.
Winds will begin to pick up as this storm departs and fair weather fills in behind it. Winds will be from the northwest at 15 to 25 mph. Gusts could be as blustery as 30 to 40 mph. This will make it feel a whole lot colder on Saturday and Sunday.
Next week starts off fine, but a weak clipper-type storm will likely graze the area Monday night into Tuesday with clouds and a few showers. Nothing to be overly concerned about.
Thanksgiving itself, right now, looks good. Things could be changing. Weather models are suggesting a developing weather system that will move through the area late Thursday into Friday.
Storm track and intensity have yet to be fully determined, so overall impacts are still very much in question. One thing to think about though. It’s the holiday. Travel is going to be very busy regardless of the weather. If this system does pan out, it looks to disrupt things a bit more so you should be paying a little more attention to the local forecast in the coming days coming from the News 12 Weather Center and our Storm Watch Team of meteorologists.
