Dismal weather continues into tonight. Overcast skies with clouds clinging to the ground. Fog and mist will be a nagging issue, with passing showers from time to time. Humidity will continue to build as tropical Carolina air sweeps up the East Coast.
Tomorrow is another day, and the weather changes a little. Clouds and sun share the sky. Afternoon highs reach for the low 80s. That humid airmass will make it feel much more uncomfortable and will help fuel isolated and widely scattered storms later in the day.
On Thursday, we turn the New Jersey thermostats up a few notches. Low-90s are expected. It will feel hotter with the humidity smothering the state. Strong to severe thunderstorms are expected as a weather system passes through. Damaging winds, hail and lightning are the primary weather threats, but a small tornado can't be ruled out of the forecast. I highly doubt it will come to fruition.
Next week, a large dome of heat will overwhelm the East Coast with heat, humidity and very little wind to stir up the air. Temperatures are likely going to be in the mid- to upper 90s - feeling more like 100 degrees or more. Speaking of which, Tuesday of next week looks to be the hottest we've had in quite a while.
Our last 100-degree day was Aug. 1, 2024. If it gets any hotter than that, we have to go back to Aug. 9, 2022 - that's when the temps popped to 101 degrees. July 2022 saw five consecutive days of 100 degrees or more, culminating with 102 degrees on July 24. The hottest it's ever gotten was 108 degrees on July 22, 2022.
