Really lovely weather lingers across New Jersey through the next few days as the autumn temperatures have finally arrived. Our first batch of bellowing freezing temperatures are on the way tonight in the northwestern areas of the state, where lows will drop below 32 at the highest elevations. There is a Freeze Warning and Frost Advisory in effect for these affected areas as the cold can damage sensitive vegetation. Temperatures will rebound by tomorrow afternoon back in the mid-60s.
Saturday looks good - with increasing clouds and a chance for showers late in the day as a coastal storm approaches. There is still uncertainty with the coastal storm as three scenarios are on the table.
First, a closer storm track that creates bigger impacts to New Jersey, including significant beach erosion, strong gusts, and rain. Second, a farther storm track south that limits major impacts to New Jersey but isolates any moderate impacts to the coastal areas only. Rainfall is lower in this scenario. The third, but least likely scenario, is that the storm hard stops and moves out to sea as it interacts with a distant hurricane. This scenario would cause the storm to miss New Jersey entirely.
Details will become clearer as the storm continues to develop today and tomorrow over the Southeast coast.
