Another beautifully warm day in the books, with temperatures peaking in the upper 70s to low 80s. A solid 10 to 15 degrees warmer than normal.
Clouds are now rolling in ahead of possible, much-needed rain for the state. The million-dollar question is - will there be enough rain to help firefighters in the Pine Barrens fighting the Jones Road wildfire? The answer isn't that encouraging. There is rain, but it looks like the bulk of the consistent rain stays north. Just a few passing showers move through. Not enough to be a factor in helping firefighting efforts.
Also, we might have a weather issue that firefighters don't want to see - wind.
This weather system on Saturday afternoon could kick up a few isolated strong-to-severe thunderstorms. Lighting could start another fire. (It’s a very small chance, but still a chance.) The bigger concern is the gusty winds with isolated storms and more consistent winds with the weather front itself.
There is a lot to keep an eye on, going into the weekend.
