Power was knocked out in a neighborhood in Plainfield Friday morning when strong winds knocked a large and aging tree to the ground.
The one tree managed to pull down eight utility poles as it fell, knocking out power to around 100 customers.
The thunderstorm was heard by residents around 6 a.m. The damage was contained to one neighborhood that sits between Leland Avenue and Terrill Road.
Multiple crews with PSE&G were working to put in new poles and make repairs.
Resident Chiamaka Patrick heard the storm as it passed through Plainfield.
“It was raining a lot, it was heavy, it was really loud,” Patrick said. “It got windy, it was drizzling. I was walking pretty fast. It was drizzling a little bit.”
East Seventh Street will remain closed until this work is complete.
No homes along the street were damaged in the storm.
