Police recovered a stolen car Wednesday morning from the Passaic River at West Side Park in Paterson.
People walking by said they could see the roof of the car in the water. The car is a silver Chevy. Tire tracks in the mud were visible from where the car drove in.
Authorities say no one was inside the car when they pulled it out of the water. Police who are actively investigating say they currently don’t have a suspect.
The damaged vehicle was towed to the yard. No injuries were reported.
Paterson Mayor Andre Sayegh says the city has experienced issues lately with car thefts and jewelry store burglaries. He says he feels bad for the owner of the car.
“Now that individual is out of a car, and quite frankly I’m sure he or she was shaken up by the fact that their car was stolen,” he said.
Sayegh reminded residents in the city to lock their car doors and not to leave anything valuable inside a car.
