A stolen BMW crashed into a school bus with students on board in Newark Wednesday morning, police say.
The crash happened around 9:45 a.m. along Branford Place, just off Broad Street.
There were 11 students from Central Regional High School on board the bus, plus five teachers and the driver. Those on the bus told News 12 they were traveling up Branford Place toward Broad Street when the driver in the BMW tried to pass on the left along what is already a narrow side street. News 12 was told the BMW hit the bus three times before eventually crashing.
A witness told News 12 it appeared three teenagers sprinted from the car. Police say all three people involved have been arrested.
News 12 was told the students on board are part of the autism program at Central Regional and were headed to IHOP across from City Hall. News 12 was also told the students and teachers on the bus were shaken by the whole experience, but there were no serious injuries. Everyone who was on the bus was being taken to the hospital to get checked out.
