More than $32 million in federal stimulus funds will be making its way to schools in Ocean County.
The Toms River Regional School District, which hasn't seen a tax increase in three years, will receive more than $6 million. Rep. John Adler (D - 3rd District) says the money will go a long way in helping taxpayers and students. District Superintendent Michael Ritacco says he plans to spend the money wisely.
"If you're adding personal staff and the stimulus plan goes away, then you have continued cost, so we're looking to do some things right now that will help us maybe with equipment and some projects that we've been trying to do," Ritacco says.
Ritacco says between the stimulus funds and a solar project that saves the district $1 million a year, the schools shouldn't see any layoffs or cutbacks.
The money was secured through the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Some other towns in Ocean County that will see funds include Lakewood, Brick and Jackson.
