The search is on for a 6-year-old foster dog after it escaped from its crate at Newark Liberty International Airport.
Sukie, a lab mix, bolted from her crate on the tarmac after arriving on a cargo flight from Puerto Rico on Sept. 15.
Her foster mother, Jennifer Wereszynski, had been expecting to re-home her in Upstate New York. She stayed in Newark for several days in order to search for the dog. However, she eventually had to leave.
The Puerto Rican shelter Sukie was originally housed in then contacted Bergen County resident Magie Lugo, who volunteered to help in the search.
"We've been putting out food and water, putting up posters everywhere, handing out fliers," she said.
Lugo has followed up on some sightings, but Sukie has yet to be found. After three weeks, the dog’s health is now a serious concern.
Wereszynski asks anyone who spots Sukie to tell her the location and not attempt to lure or approach the dog.
