New Jersey state troopers have released body camera footage of the rescue of a man who got lost in Stokes State Forest.
State police officials say that troopers at the Sussex Station responded to a call for a missing person on Dec. 17. It appears the man left his home on an ultra-terrain vehicle (UTV) and no one had heard from him in 24 hours.
Troopers searched the area and first found the UTV, which had apparently become disabled by several boulders and a log. They then found the man’s walking stick and boot. They found the man a short time later by following his footprints in the snow.
When they found him, he was suffering from hypothermia. The troopers took off parts of their uniforms to help keep the man warm. They also took turns laying on top of the man to provide body heat, while also rubbing his body.
Local firefighters eventually arrived and were able to carry the man out of the woods and he was airlifted to the hospital for treatment.
The man’s name was not released, but he is expected to fully recover.
