State Sen. Gerry Cardinale dies at 86 from brief illness

The New Jersey GOP announced Saturday that state Sen. Gerry Cardinale has died at the age of 86 from a brief illness not related to COVID-19.

The New Jersey GOP announced Saturday that state Sen. Gerry Cardinale has died at the age of 86 from a brief illness not related to COVID-19.
He served more than 40 years as a Republican in the New Jersey legislature.
During his time in state government, he helped write Megan's Law to help protect children from sexual predators. He served one term in the state Assembly before winning a seat in the state Senate in 1981, and was reelected nine times.
The state will lower all flags to half-staff on Monday when the Senate returns to session.
