One person died Thursday night following a serious crash on the Garden State Parkway, according to New Jersey State Police.

The crash happened shortly before 5:30 p.m. in the area of mile marker 132 in Woodbridge.

There is no word yet on what caused the crash.

There were backups for hours during the evening commute.
